Paula Štancl is an assistant in the Bioinformatics Group and a second-year doctoral student in Biology at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, Croatia. Already in her early student days, she won the Rector's Award for the application of bioinformatics tools for genome analysis of the endemic Ogulin cave sponge. Today, Paula deals with the analysis of tumor data obtained by sequencing the human genome. She studies various chromatin modifications and mutational signatures in the tumor genomes that are responsible for its origin and further development. Also, she develops machine learning models to better determine the origin of the tumor and its various subtypes to advance tumor therapy.
